Both the Clark College men’s and women’s basketball teams put an end to losing streaks on Saturday with NWAC South victories over Southwestern Oregon at the O’Connell Sports Complex in Vancouver.
The women’s team started the doubleheader with a 71-58 victory to halt a three-game slide.
The Clark men followed with a 94-86 win to end a two-game skid and post its fourth win in six games.
Penguins sophomore Sam Scarpelli led all scorers with 36 points, going 25 for 25 from the free-throw line.
Clark (11-7, 3-4 NWAC South) was 37 of 42 from the line in the game including 20 of 21 over the final 3:57.
Tyler Fernstrom had 17 points, Parker Gaddis had 11 points and team-high eight rebounds, and Sethon Moore had 10 points.
For the Clark women (6-12, 1-6 NWAC South), Hockinson High grad Payton Wangler led five Penguins in double figures with 17 points. Mahrysa Thomas had 14 points and eight rebounds, Alexus Hunter had 13 points, La Center grad Taylor Mills had 11, and Jodi Thomasian had 10.
Clark’s largest lead of the game was 20 points early in the fourth quarter after pulling away in the third with a 21-9 advantage.
Next for Clark is a trip to Salem, Ore., on Wednesday to take on Chemeketa.
