RIDGEFIELD — The Clark Regional Wastewater District board awarded a $2.4 million contract to Tapani Inc. of Battle Ground to build a new sewer pumping station and install about a mile of pipe, allowing future sewer service for about 1,000 acres of land around the eastern city limits of Ridgefield near Interstate 5.

The pump station will be installed near North 10th Street, east of North 45th Avenue. The pipe will run east, under I-5 toward North 65th Avenue, according to the district. Construction is scheduled to start in May.

The district said it’s coordinating with Ridgefield’s Public Works Department. There will be temporary traffic controls placed as needed during construction, but the district expected traffic impacts will be limited to increased area truck traffic, as much of the construction will not be in public roadways.

“This project is a catalyst for job creation, for the development of industrial and commercial services around the Ridgefield I-5 junction, as well as residential investment in the northeast portion of the city,” Norm Harker, district board president, said in a news release.

The upgrade will also support future development of Clark College at Boschma Farms. Funding for the improvements came from revenue collected from taxes on new development.
