When it counted, Ridgefield’s poise and defense came through.
As a reward, the Spudders earned a big road win in the hunt for 2A Greater St. Helens League postseason berth.
Alicia Andrew had a triple double to lead the Spudders to an overtime win against R.A. Long on Thursday in Longview.
After going 4 for 16 from the foul line in regulation, Ridgefield made 8 of 10 free throws in overtime, outscoring R.A. Long 10-2.
And after R.A. Long’s leading scorer Eastyn Reeves scored 24 points through three quarters, Ridgefield held her to two points the rest of the way.
Andrew, a 6-foot-3 sophomore post, had 23 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocks.
Karli Oliver added 15 points, including eight of Ridgefield’s 12 points in the third quarter, and added eight rebounds and five steals. Ridgefield coach Tom Klutz also praised her defense.
Behind league champ Washougal, it’s a tight race for the three remaining berths to the district tournament. One game is all that separated the second-through-sixth place teams entering Thursday.
Now Ridgefield (11-7, 5-5) is alone in fourth place, one-half game behind Columbia River and Woodland. Ridgefield has two games to play while River and Woodland have three.
“It was a huge win,” Klutz said. “I figured we’d have to win two of our last three and get help. If we win our last three, we’re in. Now we’ve got one.”
