Girls basketball: La Center 55, Castle Rock 23

The Wildcats allowed only four points in the first half en route to a 1A Trico League home win.

Lauren Fox, Taylor Stephens and Mia Edwards each had two 3-pointers in the first quarter as La Center bolted to a 24-4 lead.

The Wildcats (8-9, 5-2) led 31-4 at halftime

“Last time we played them, we were down 25-18 at halftime,” La Center coach Herm VanWeerdhuizen said. “We wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again.”

Stephens led all scorers with 21 points, along with seven rebounds, six assists and five steals. Fox had 11 points and set the tone for La Center’s defense, according to VanWeerdhuizen.

Payton Kessler scored six points to lead Castle Rock (8-8, 2-5).
