The Clark College Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2019 will be honored on Saturday, Feb. 2, at halftime of the Clark men’s basketball game as well as at a banquet that same evening.
The men’s basketball game against Linn-Benton tips off at 4 p.m. at the O’Connell Sports Complex. The women’s basketball team opens the doubleheader at 2 p.m.
The banquet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Gaiser Student Center. Tickets are $25 per person and organizers ask those who wish to attend RSVP by Jan. 28. Tickets can be purchased online through www.clarkcollegefoundation.org.
Honorees are Brenda Bessner, women’s track and field (1989-90), Janie Hogan-Corbett, women’s basketball (1991-93), and the back-to-back NWAC champion men’s golf teams from 1981 and 1982.
Bessner was NWAC shot put and javelin champion in 1989, the javelin champion in 1990, and still holds the Clark records in those events.
Hogan-Corbett was on the 1993 NWAC championship women’s basketball team that was also the first to go undefeated (33-0) in NWAC history. She was a first-team all-league and all-tournament selection after leading the league in scoring and rebounding.
Members of the 1981 NWAC champion golf team were Kevin Antolock, Greg Brown, Jeff Coad, Eric Degerman, Ian Harper, and Glen Hueser. The 1982 champion team included Antolock, Mike Burch, Coad, Degerman, Tim Gilberg, and Todd Quigley. Both teams were coached by Skeet O’Connell.
Valentines basketball tournament
Teams are being soughtfor a Valentine’s week basketball tournament for sixth grade girls and boys.
The tournament will be Feb. 16-17 at the Fort Vancouver High School gym.
