Vancouver – Office Moms & Dads, the Vancouver-based nonprofit serving children entering foster care, was awarded a $25,000 grant to create an app to help organize and support volunteers.

The grant from the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington is being leveraged with in-kind work from Vancouver-based software developer Hint.

“Our mission at Hint is not only to make better software, but to make the world a better place. When Office Moms & Dads met with us to talk about how an app would allow volunteers to spend more time serving kids and less time managing schedules, we literally couldn’t wait to get involved,” CEO Ben Wood said in a news release. “In addition to donating a portion of our consulting time, we’re helping OMD rally other software developers in the community that are looking for an opportunity to give back. We care deeply about the work that OMD is doing, and feel it is a cause worth investing in.”

Office Moms & Dads has offices at 20 agencies across Washington and one in Idaho. Last year, more than 500 volunteers served more than 700 children, including 165 children in Clark County. Volunteers offer children a safe, loving environment while they’re waiting to be placed in a foster home.

The custom software “will reduce time spent on daily operations and refocus those efforts on building community relations,” the news release said. It will result in more accurate tracking of volunteer hours and the number of children served, and help the nonprofit recruit a more diverse pool of volunteers to better serve foster children, according to the news release.
