Audrey Adams’ 16th rebound proved crucial, as her put back off a missed shot and ensuing free throw in the closing seconds sealed Woodland’s 49-46 home victory over Ridgefield in Friday’s 2A Greater St. Helens League girls basketball win.
The victory is what longtime coach Glen Flanagan called “a huge one” for his Beavers team that previously lost to Ridgefield earlier this season. Woodland’s now won four in a row.
Woodland rallied after trailing by nine entering the fourth quarter and stormed back at one stretch to take a 5-point lead late in the fourth. After Ridgefield’s Karli Oliver hit two free throws to tie the game at 46-all, Woodland’s final possession included running an in-bounds play underneath its own basket with 6 seconds left. Adams grabbed a missed shot from Nicole Guthrie and was fouled on the play. She made the free throw as part of her double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. She also had four steals to help Woodland improve to 4-3 in league.
Guthrie added 13 rebounds with her eight points, and Flanagan noted her strong defense on Ridgefield’s 6-foot-3 post, Allie Andrew, who was held to six points. Devi Dugan led the Spudders with 16.
