Ridgefield — At its Dec. 11 meeting, the Ridgefield School District board recognized the December Employee and Students of the Month. Derell Couch, a teacher at Union Ridge Elementary School, was named Employee of the Month for her compassion and enthusiasm, always putting students first and constantly thinking of ways to make her teaching more effective. Second-grader Cameron Branch was named Student of the Month at South Ridge Elementary School for his resiliency and positivity. Union Ridge’s Student of the Month was third-grader Troyce Gosney, who was described as having a contagious joy for learning. Sixth-grader Kimberly Diaz was named Student of the Month at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School for her willingness to help both her fellow students and adults. View Ridge Middle School eighth-grader Aaliyah Vogan was honored for being a student role model and working well in groups. Davin Tjia, a junior at Ridgefield High School, was selected after moving to Ridgefield in January 2017 from Taiwan and in less than two years, learning English and immersing himself in various school activities while taking five AP classes.
