CAMAS — The Camas City Council filled a vacancy at a special meeting Tuesday night, selecting Ellen Burton as the newest city councilor.
Burton, a 21-year resident of the city, is retired from a career in global technology. She is a leadership adviser for the C4 Career Tech Education Consortium and is a Master Gardener with Washington State University Extension.
Burton has also volunteered with the Camas School District, served on the board of the Camas Education Foundation and volunteered with the YWCA of Clark County. In her application, she received letters of recommendation from Camas School District Superintendent Jeff Snell and Nan Henriksen, former mayor of the city.
The council had an open seat after Shannon Turk was appointed mayor in November. The mayor’s seat came open when Scott Higgins stepped down in September.
