Girls basketball: La Center 49, Castle Rock 40

Taylor Stephens scored 21 points, Mia Edwards added 19 and the Wildcats overcame a cold first half for a Trico League road win.

La Center (4-7, 2-0) trailed 25-18 at halftime. But the Wildcats defense clamped down in the third quarter, holding the Rockets to two points to take a 29-27 lead.

Edwards made four of her five 3-pointers in the second half. Stephens had six 3-pointers despite facing a box-and-one defense that aimed to limit her shots.

Stephens also had six assists, five rebounds and nine steals.

Megan Keeling scored 14 points to lead Castle Rock (5-6, 0-2).
