Vancouver – Vancouver received a slice of the $3.3 million in grants Premera Blue Cross made last month to 18 nonprofits around the state through its Premera Social Impact program.

“These programs are among the leaders in our area in making a difference in the lives of individuals and families,” Paul Hollie, who leads Premera Social Impact, said in a news release. “They, like us, are working toward a healthier community through therapy, education and safe, supportive housing.”

Three Vancouver-based organizations received a total of $112,650.

• Children’s Center got $15,000 to put “a part-time mental health therapist in the Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit to address untreated mental health challenges of victims and their children,” the news release said.

• Lifeline Connections received $85,000 for Camp Mariposa, a weekend camp for children whose family members have substance use disorders. The goal is to give children “the knowledge, tools and coping skills” to prevent them from developing their own substance use disorder.

• Lutheran Community Services Northwest received $12,650 to begin offering mental health services to the Russian-speaking community through adjustment support groups, which aim to increase refugee participation in mental health services by “decreasing stigma, providing a safe and nonthreatening access point and helping refugees and immigrants understand the benefits of mental health services,” the news release said.
