Wrestler beats out Skyview gymnast Sugarman for honor

Union boys wrestling Danny Snediker is The Columbian winter sports prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Jan. 5.

Snediker received 40 percent of the vote this week to beat out Skyview gymnast Anna Sugarman for the honor.

The top-ranked 4A wrestler in the state captured the 160-pound division at the Gut Check Challenge in Bremerton last weekend.

Here are the other nominees:

ALEX BISHOP, WOODLAND BOYS BASKETBALL: Bishop scored 20 and 18 points in two 2A Greater St. Helens League wins for the Beavers.

ISAIAH ROSS, WASHOUGAL BOYS SWIMMING: Ross swam a state-qualifying time of 4:56.74 in the 500 freestyle in a meet at Cascade Athletic.

TAYLOR STEPHENS, LA CENTER GIRLS BASKETBALL: Stephens had a career-high 37 points with seven 3-pointers, six rebounds, five steals and four blocks vs. Seton Catholic.

ANNA SUGARMAN, SKYVIEW GYMNASTICS: Sugarman won the floor exercise and the all-around with a score of 36.7 in a three-team meet at Naydenov.
