We get to do a trade-off today from those frosty cold mornings to a warmer rainy pattern the next several days. A warm front was expected overnight into early morning today, and a cold front late in the day and overnight into Friday morning.
Typical wintertime scenario. If we want clear and sunny weather, we get the sub-freezing temperatures. If we want it warmer, then clouds and rain. Fair trade-off? Probably not for some who like it on the dry side. At least we got rid of the freezing fog and icy conditions. Back to rain jackets and wiper blades a-moving.
The heaviest rain will be along the Washington Coast and north of Clark County initially with 55 mph winds on the beaches and perhaps 1-2 inches of rain. Locally between the warm and cold fronts I expect a half-inch and better here. Not all at once but spread out 24 hours start to finish.
We have been talking about the dry months lately and the year overall in 2018, but 10 years ago I was writing these words. “The new year of 2009 has gotten off to a great start rain wise in our local area. Vancouver received over 3 inches of rain in just the first two days of January, nearly as much as we did for all of December. And with several wet storms coming our way the next five days we will surely keep above average in the rainfall category. Could we finally be having a turnaround back to normal? In the past two years (2007, 2008) we have only had two months with average or above rainfall as measured at Pearson Field.”
