Clark County burn ban lifted

Better air, south winds to bring better air quality

Better air quality and a windy forecast prompted the the Southwest Clean Air Agency to lift Wednesday the burn ban over Clark County.

County residents may resume using wood stoves and fireplaces, but the agency asked people to make sure their fires burn as cleanly as possible. Stoves and fireplaces are working best when burning dry, seasoned firewood, indicated by the lack of visible smoke coming from the chimney.

The agency enacted the Stage 2 Burn Ban Tuesday, as the stagnant air could cause health problems. Weather forecasters expected the stagnant conditions to lift Wednesday evening, with increasing south winds to improve ventilation in the metro area, according to the agency.

In areas of the county where burning has not been permanently banned, outdoor burning will again be allowed with the proper permits. For more information on better burning methods, visit www.swcleanair.org/burning.
