A Clark County sheriff’s deputy received minor injuries early Monday after being struck by a fleeing motorist.

The incident occurred about 3 a.m. near the intersection of Northeast 75th Street and Northeast 104th Avenue, in the Five Corners area north of Orchards.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, the deputy spotted a dark-colored older car parked on the shoulder of the road, with two women standing beside it. He pulled over, parked and walked toward the car, when the women jumped back into their car and accelerated toward the deputy.

He was struck by the car in his lower extremities and was later taken to a hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Other deputies pursued the suspect car, which was being driven recklessly at speeds of nearly 100 mph. It was last seen speeding southbound on Interstate 205 at the Glenn Jackson Bridge to Portland.

The deputy’s name was not immediately released. Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Jayson Camp at jayson.camp@clark.wa.gov.
