A call about a stolen vehicle at the Portland VA Vancouver Medical Center campus led to the bomb squad responding after officers found a grenade in the car.

Police were called around 1 p.m. to the campus for a report of a stolen vehicle recovered in a parking lot there, according to Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

But as officers searched the car, they found a grenade inside, so the regional bomb squad responded to take care of it, Kapp said, disrupting work for some at the facility.

The call wound down by about 3:30 p.m., she said, and the registered owner was contacted to pick up the car.
