Vancouver police are searching for an armed robbery suspect following a Sunday night holdup at a convenience store.

Police officers were dispatched about 9:30 p.m. to the Plaid Pantry at 1002 W. Fourth Plain Blvd., for a report of a robbery that just happened, according to a Vancouver Police Department news release.

A man entered the store, pointed a small handgun at the employee and demanded cash and cigarettes, police said. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and several packs of cigarettes, the news release states.

Initial reports suggested that the man left on foot westbound away from the store, but it was later determined that he headed in the opposite direction, police said. A police canine was used to try to find him, but the search was unsuccessful.

Police described the suspect as a man in his late teens or early 20s, standing between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, with a thin build, according to the news release.

The robbery remains under investigation.
