Vancouver group celebrates Chinese New Year

Felida — The Vancouver Chinese Association hosted a new year celebration on Feb. 3 to say goodbye to the year of dog and welcome the year of golden pig. Nearly 1,000 people filled the Skyview High School auditorium, including Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle and Camas Mayor Shannon Turk. Yi Shen was a guest of honor for the event. She’s a professional musician and a volunteer Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute at Portland State University. She performed “Jasmine Flower” along with Jade Young of Grass Valley Elementary School and Joy Young of Skyridge Middle School.
