Location was key in the snowstorm Friday night.
The west side of the county had a southerly wind that kept the snow level above surface.
East of Interstate 205, winds were out of the east and it was mainly all snow there.
Snow depths reported Saturday afternoon included 6 to 8 inches in Camas and Washougal, 3.5 inches near Vancouver Mall, 4 inches in Orchards, 1 or 2 inches in Battle Ground, and 4 inches 2 miles east of Salmon Creek.
Areas west of I-205 and Interstate 5 had a trace of the white stuff. Usually we have the greatest amounts in Salmon Creek, Felida and Hazel Dell. Not this time. Snow fell in those areas, but it was an effort for the snowflakes to stick and accumulate.
We have yet another weather system dropping down from the north tonight, but forecast models Saturday afternoon indicated it would hit mainly to the north keeping a warmer south wind ahead of it.
So, just perhaps a little flurry at the onset, then a mix of rain and snow and maybe rain. If it were to drop farther south then we would get some snow. Tricky forecast again.
Stay tuned to the latest forecasts today for the details. Seattle had 8 inches out of Saturday’s storm while Portland had 4 inches. It seems like when Seattle gets nailed, we miss out down here and vice versa.
It will stay chilly all week. Another cold storm on Tuesday will drop snow somewhere in Western Washington.
