The Repair Clark County program will hold a Repair Café event, where handy helpers fix guests’ household items for free, Tuesday at the Smith Tower Apartments in downtown Vancouver.

The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at 515 Washington St. Guests are encouraged to bring bicycles, clothing, small home appliances, electronics, jewelry, or tools and knives for sharpening. The volunteer fixers will attempt to repair them — there’s no guarantees — or offer advice on how guests can do it themselves.

Repair Clark County encourages guests to bring replacement parts, such as cords or zippers, specific to broken items for fixers to use in the repair. The group also asks guests to bring items small enough to be easily carried by one person, and do not bring anything that’s dirty, smelly or might be dangerous.

Last year, volunteers had an 84 percent success rate with repairs, according to Repair Clark County, which is organized through environmental education and outreach nonprofit Columbia Springs.
