Letter: Thanks to congresswoman

By Marty Irby, Washington, D.C.
Published: February 4, 2019, 6:00am

I write to thank U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler for her terrific work against the torturous practice of soring horses: intentionally injuring horses’ feet to win prized horse shows, a plague that has marred the equine world for more than half a century.

As a former eight-time World Champion rider, and past president of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association, I know firsthand how rampant this abuse is. Rep. Herrera Beutler has stepped up to fight against this abuse and is a hero to the horses that have lived in pain for so long.
