A convicted sex offender living in Vancouver who allegedly sent child pornography to an unwitting acquaintance made his first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court.
James C. Voreis, 33, was arrested Feb. 1 on suspicion of dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct and failing to register as a sex offender, according to court records. On Monday, Judge Suzan Clark set his bail at $60,000, court records show.
After meeting a man during a brief encounter and communicating by text, Voreis sent him numerous images of child pornography through a cellphone app, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The man did not ask for the images and provided his phone to forensic investigators with the Vancouver Police Department Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit, the affidavit says.
Voreis, who’s required to register as a sex offender for a 2000 conviction, has a listed address in Longview, according to the affidavit. But he was routinely spotted by a police officer leaving his mother’s residence in Vancouver. After obtaining a search warrant, an officer arrested Voreis as he left the home in sleepwear, according to the affidavit.
