A Friday night house fire in Vancouver’s Rose Village neighborhood was caused by combustibles being too close to a wood-burning stove on the deck of the residence, according to the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.

Vancouver firefighters responded about 8:30 p.m. to 2310 E. 26th St., for a blaze at the back of the house. Responding firefighters found heavy fire on a covered deck and flames extending into the residence, according to Dean Bray, lead deputy fire marshal.

All of the home’s occupants were outside except for a dog. Firefighters rescued the dog from a bedroom, resuscitated him and returned him to his owner, Bray said.

The two-story, single-family home with an attached garage sustained about $170,000 worth of damage, Bray said.

Three adults and five dogs were displaced by the fire, and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
