Blokable, the prefab housing company with locations in Seattle and Vancouver, announced this week it has selected KPFF, the multi-discipline engineering firm, to serve as the preferred structural engineering partner for Blokable projects.
“The two companies are working together to expand prosperity and equity in communities — bringing KPFF’s structural expertise to Blokable’s vertically integrated development platform and prefab building system,” a news release says. “KPFF will provide accredited structural advisory and oversight to help Blokable quickly and cost-effectively develop beautiful, comfortable, and modern housing where it’s needed most.”
Blokable was founded in March 2016. It shipped its first product last July from its leased warehouse in Vancouver’s Columbia Business Park to a site in Edmonds. Design work and software engineering is done in Seattle.
Also, this week The New York Times mentioned Blokable in a story “Can Technology Help Fix the Housing Market?” Blokable is one of several companies, the story noted, “that have attracted the most attention for their potential to improve affordability (by) trying to revive the decades-old dream of prefab construction.”
