Five Camas players earn spots on Associated Press all-state football first team

Hockinson has three players on 2A all-state first team

The honors for the Camas High School football continued to roll in a five Papermakers earned first-team selections to the Associated Press all-state football team on Monday.

Junior running back Jacques Badolato-Birdsell, plus seniors Rush Reimer (offensive line), Tristan Souza (defensive line), Tyler Forner (linebacker) and Bryce Leighton (punter) were selected to the Class 4A all-state first team.

The all-state teams, voted upon by a statewide panel of media members, were comprised of first teams, plus honorable mention.

Four more Papemakers earned honorable mention – receiver Jackson Clemmer, offensive lineman Tai Tumanuvao, defensive lineman Robert Silva and defensive back Kolby Broadbent. Forner also received honorable mention at all-purpose. Also earning honorable mention were Union’s Rocky Mataia (offensive line) and Skyview’s Josiah Cochran (defensive line) and Cooper Barnum (linebacker).

Hockinson had three players earn first-team all-state honors at Class 2A: quarterback Levi Crum, offensive lineman Takumi Veley and defensive back Liam Mallory. Washougal linebacker Brevan Bea was made the 2A first team.

Earning 2A honorable mention were Hockinson’s Peyton Brammer (receiver), Jeremiah Faulstick (tight end) and Ki Haden (offensive line), as well as Ridgefield defensive lineman Trey Knight.

On the Class 1A first team were Castle Rock running back Wyatt Partridge, La Center offensive lineman Max Muffett and King’s Way Christian defensive lineman Bailey Meek. Castle Rock defensive lineman Landon Garndner earned honorable mention.

At 3A, Prairie’s Brody Schlaefli (offensive line) and Evergreen’s Zyell Griffin (all-purpose) earned honorable mention.

Steilacoom junior Emeka Egbuka has been named The Associated Press Washington state high school football player of the year.

The star wide receiver was a unanimous choice as the state player of the year for all classifications in voting conducted by sports writers and editors from around the state. Egbuka helped lead Steilacoom to the Class 2A championship game. One of the top recruits in the country for the class of 2021, Egbuka had 2,240 all-purpose yards and 35 total touchdowns. He had more than 1,500 yards receiving. Egbuka was also voted the player of the year for Class 2A.

Juniors were a theme among players of the year in each classification. Kennedy Catholic junior quarterback Sam Huard was voted the Class 4A player of the year. Eastside Catholic junior lineman J.T. Tuimoloau was voted the Class 3A player of the year. Royal junior quarterback Caleb Christensen was voted the Class 1A player of the year after throwing for 3,000 yards and 51 touchdowns.

Onalaska senior running back Ashton Haight was voted the Class 2B player of the year and Odessa’s Marcus King was honored as the Class 1B player of the year.
