Senior guard Brad Lackey set single-game school records for points (40) and 3-pointers (11) Monday, as the Union Titans captured the Surf Division title at the Surf ‘N Slam boys basketball holiday tournament with a 95-62 victory over Franklin out of Elk Grove, Calif.
Lackey shot 14 of 19 from the field, including 11 of 16 on 3-pointers. The 11 3s surpasses Ethan Smith’s school record of nine set last season. As a team, Union hit its first nine 3-point shots on its way to a school-record 21 on the night.
Lackey’s 40 points Monday also surpasses Cameron Cranston’s school-record of 39 from 2017.
Lackey was named earned all-tournament division MVP, as Union went 3-0 at the San Diego tournament to improve to 11-0 on the season. It returns home Saturday to host Gonzaga Prep in a nonleague game at 2 p.m.
Also for Union, Kaden Horn added 14 points, Izaiah Vongnath had 12, and Tanner Toolson had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
