Girls basketball: R.A. Long 48, La Center 47

R.A. Long trailed almost the entire game before Kailey Sirnio’s free throws inside 20 seconds left lifted the Lumberjills to a 48-47 comeback victory over 1A La Center at the final day of the Hoops for the Holidays girls basketball tournament at Evergreen High School.

Playing in its third game in three days, head coach Jan Karnosfski praised his team’s fourht-quarter surge, outscoring the Wildcats 12-5.

R.A. Long trailed by 7 with 3 minutes to play, but hit 4 of 5 free throws down the stretch to pull away for the win.

“We held on for dear life for 16 seconds,” Karnofski said.

R.A. Long overcame a 22-point performance by La Center’s Kylee Stephens, who poured in a game-high 22 points including five 3-pointers.

Miranda Lomax led RAL with 12 points and Bobbi Clark added nine.
