Amtrak has resumed service between Seattle and Portland following a 48-hour moratorium due to a landslide.
After crews worked through Friday and Saturday nights to remove the debris, service was slated to resume at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said. The mudslide occurred 9 a.m. Friday eight miles south of Tacoma, leaving debris that was 3 feet deep and 50 feet wide.
The moratorium affected 20 trains along the Cascades and Coast Starlight routes, both of which stop at Vancouver’s station. Southbound travel from Portland was unaffected along both routes.
An “atmospheric river” brought heavy rain and some flooding to parts of the Pacific Northwest this week.
Melonas said the mudslide was the first in that area this year.
