A Caring Closet seeks volunteers to assist people who come in looking for pieces of durable medical equipment. Volunteers help to fill out paperwork and liability waivers, answer phones, assist people who drop off equipment as donations, write receipts, and more. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Salvation Army needs help in many roles, including volunteers to ride along with the bread truck driver assisting in picking up food from various stores in town. Clerical call receivers answer phones, help with light typing and filing, and assist with emergency food boxes. Food room workers help sort donated food items, stock shelves, organize and rotate freezer goods, assist with unloading the bread trucks or other donations that come in, and other duties as needed. Many shifts throughout the week are available.

West Columbia Gorge Humane Society has several volunteer opportunities available. Animal fosters for dogs and cats provide temporary foster homes for those animals recovering from surgery or medical procedures. Cat and dog shelter help is needed to help care for the animals while they are awaiting adoption. Duties might include, assisting in the office, adoption counselors, evening feeding, and socialization. Behind the scenes volunteers are also needed to help with fundraising, marketing, event coordination, grant writing, IT and more.

YWCA Clark County is seeking Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers. These trained community members represent the best interests of a child placed in the foster care system, ensuring that the child’s voice is heard. The CASA gathers information, follows the child’s progress, monitors parent’s progress, facilitates positive communication, and makes recommendations to the Court based on their findings. Thirty hours of pre-service training and 12 hours of annual continuing education are provided.
