Columbia River is picking up right where it left off. The Chieftains went 13-10 last season and tied for second in the 2A Greater St. Helens League. With seven varsity returners, including the favorite to win league player of the year in Jordan Ryan, Columbia River is dreaming big.
“We’ve been able to tweak a few things, but we’re going to double down on our style of play and what we’ve been doing,” third-year coach Will Jones said. “We’re not having to teach a lot of new things. That’s been the best part: being able to just keep going with where we were at.”
Ryan, a 6-foot senior guard, is the most electric player in the league. She averaged 14 points per game last season and has the opportunity to increase that load even more this season.
She’s joined by all-league returners Ellie Christian, a 6-foot senior post, and Sydney Flores-Tucker, a 5-7 senior guard. Flores-Tucker is still rehabbing from a torn ACL but is expected back in January.
