When was the last time the Washougal boys basketball team won a game at Mark Morris in Longview?
For an answer, third-year coach A.J. Labree looked for an assist.
“I talked to an old Washougal fan and they don’t remember that ever happening,” Labree said.
Washougal opened 2A Greater St. Helens League play on Wednesday with a rare feat. The Panthers beat Mark Morris 49-42 in Longview knocking off a team that, prior to last season, had won at least a share of the league title in 18 straight years.
Brevan Bea scored 15 points and Yanni Fassilis added 12 for the Panthers.
After falling behind 14-7, Washogual outscored the Monarchs 21-13 in the second quarter.
Leading 42-39 after three quarters, the Panthers clamped down defensively and allowed just three points the rest of the way.
