EAST VANCOUVER — More than 60 volunteers recently helped put together more than 1,000 packs to donate to those who are homeless or living in poverty.
The Essential Packs program was started by The KMR Group Foundation. Each pack contains everyday items, such as socks, gloves, hats, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, a gift card to a local restaurant and some other items.
The packs were delivered to Share Fromhold Service Center, 2306 N.E. Andresen Road, so they can be distributed to those in need at the nonprofit’s Dec. 19 holiday luncheon, which is open to Day Center and community guests, as well as Share House and Women’s Housing and Transition residents.
Volunteers from Seton Catholic High School helped unload the winter essential packs on Dec. 5.
“Each Year, KMR provides 1,000 holiday gift bags … for those experiencing homelessness and/or poverty. Their generosity extends to the purchase of soft Pillow Pet-like bags for children so there is a little joy incorporated in providing the necessities of life,” Diane McWithey, executive director of Share, said in a news release. “The needs are greater than ever, but so is the potential for support this holiday season,” Kate Jones, executive director of KMR Group Foundation, said in the release.
