Mason Oberg scored a game-high 22 points as the Union girls basketball team beat visiting Glacier Peak of Snohomish 49-45 on Friday.
“Every time we needed a bucket, she game through with a big one,” Union coach Gary Mills said of Oberg.
The game was close throughout as the Titans (5-0) and Glacier Peak (1-1) battled on defense.
“It was a grind,” Mills said. “Glacier Peak is one of the good pressure defensive teams in the state.”
Mills said the difference was Union was able to get stops on defense and rebound well down the stretch.
Mackenzie Lewis had 10 rebounds to go with nine points for Union. Abby Kaip added 11 points.
Union led 38-31 midway in the third period, and Glacier Peak, which finished fourth at state last season, got as close as 44-43 but never took the lead away from the Titans.
