CAMAS — Anyone looking to practice for a polar bear plunge should avoid Fallen Leaf Lake; Clark County Public Health issued a warning Tuesday that algae might be present.

The agency issued an advisory for the lake backin October, just one of many such advisories issued this year at various bodies of water around the county, including Vancouver Lake and Lacamas and Round lakes in Camas.

The advisory for Fallen Leaf Lake asks people to:

• Avoid swimming and other activities where skin contact with the water is likely.

• Not drink lake water or allow pets to drink it.

• Keep pets out of water in areas with blue-green scum.

• Stay away from areas of scum when kayaking or paddleboarding.

• Clean any fish caught in the lake thoroughly and discard organs.

Additional information about blue-green algae and current advisories are posted on the Public Health public beach webpage, www.clark.wa.gov/public-health/public-beaches.
