Kahlil Singleton poured in a career-high 42 points, including hitting 8 of 13 3-pointers to lead Fort Vancouver to a 78-72 nonleague boys basketball victory over 2A Mark Morris on Tuesday.
“It’s huge … at least 20 year since Fort beat Mark Morris,” Trappers coach James Ensley said. “They are just a juggernaut.”
Singleton, a sophomore guard, shot 14 of 24 on the night and also hit 6 of 8 free throws.
“He’s just a great shooter,” Ensley said. “He was coming off a tough game against Battle Ground, just over stressing. And tonight he kinda let loose. He can play.”
Fort held off Mark Morris late after leading 74-72 with inside 1 minute left. Ensley said he wasn’t completely comfortable until about 20 seconds to play.
“Mark Morris gave us everything they got,” he said. “We just played well and did what we needed to do.”
Fort’s Trey Cannon added 12 points and Keyontae Cage had 10 points.
Ensley said Cannon and Tyrique Cargile played big roles on defense to help put the Monarchs away.
The Monarchs had two scorers with 20-plus games: Jack Shipley (21 points) and Ashton Harvey (20).
