Vancouver police have not identified any suspects in an incident involving a stolen construction vehicle used to try to break into two ATMs.
The alarm service for the Bank of America ATM at 5411 E. Mill Plain Blvd., reported to police around 4:20 a.m. Friday that it was watching video of the vehicle ram into the machine, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email.
Officers responded to find a dumped stolen front-end loader by the remains of the busted ATM, Kapp said. The loader had been stolen from a nearby construction site, she said.
Police confirmed Monday that another nearby ATM at Riverview Community Bank, 915 MacArthur Blvd., was also likely targeted by the would-be thief. That ATM was not as badly damaged, Kapp said.
“Neither ATM was compromised to the point where any cash was taken and both were likely damaged by the same person/same piece of equipment,” she said.
