PORTLAND — A New Jersey company called Conduent Commercial Solutions will pay $175,000 in back wages to settle claims that it discriminated against women, African Americans and Asians who applied for customer service jobs at a site near Portland.

Conduent serves federal agencies including the General Services Administration.

The U.S. Department of Labor said the accusations date to a “routine compliance evaluation” in 2012, designed to ensure that federal contractors like Conduent are not discriminating. The department alleged that Conduent discriminated against 1,121 applicants.

The settlement requires Conduent to offer jobs to 138 applicants and to comply with nondiscrimination laws and regulations in the future.
