RIDGEFIELD — Union Ridge Elementary School held its sixth annual Culture Parade downtown, so students could show the community what they had learned throughout the year. Each grade, kindergarten through fourth, highlighted a different culture. Kindergartners worked on projects that reflected their personal family history and culture with timelines of their lives. First-graders studied the cultures of individual countries by wearing paper vests decorated with flags and interesting facts. Some students chose to represent a country with which their family had a personal connection. Second-graders studied the cultural influence of historical figures, carrying a poster with a drawing and biographical facts. The third-grade class studied cultures in different regions of the U.S., dressing to reflect the culture of that region along with creating posters. The end of the parade featured fourth-graders who studied Washington’s culture. On each block, students waited for a musical cue and dressed in Western wear, performed the square dance, Washington’s state dance.
