Salmon Creek — Earth Day Fest continued a 28-year tradition of community engagement, education and habitat restoration, with 489 volunteers — up from 237 in 2018 — at Salmon Creek Regional Park on April 20. The volunteers planted 1,085 trees, pulled garlic mustard and picked up trash to help restore critical habitat for migratory salmon.

At Columbia Springs, kids participated in a fish release in which they sent tiny juvenile salmon back into the wild. Kids colored and made their own buttons, learned about science with representatives from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, saw reptiles and amphibians up close with Mr. Lizard and took part in interactive nature demonstrations.
