A blaze destroyed a two-story house Wednesday morning in northern Clark County.

Fire personnel responded shortly after 7 a.m. to the 37000 block of Northeast 81st Avenue. When they arrived, the fire had breached the roof of the home and a garage on the property had collapsed, said Gordon Brooks, assistant chief for Clark County Fire District 10.

District 10 firefighters, as well as those responding from Clark County Fire & Rescue, could see a column of smoke miles away from the scene, Brooks said.

The home was unoccupied, and the owners are known to primarily reside there on weekends, Brooks said. A passerby first noticed the blaze when the house was already engulfed.

“Well, the biggest challenge was the delayed reporting,” Brooks said.

Fire personnel spent about two hours actively fighting the blaze, Brooks said. The structure was declared a total loss.

Four engines, three water tenders and four chiefs from District 10, Fire & Rescue and Clark County District 13 responded to the blaze.

Firefighters remained on scene Wednesday afternoon and were hoping to save some of the home’s contents, Brooks said. The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
