Nominees for Week 5 spring sports prep athlete of the week

Voting, sponsored by Athletes Corner, continues through Thursday

Here are the nominees for The Columbian spring sports prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending April 20.

Voting will continue until 8 p.m. Thursday, with results announced in Friday’s edition of The Columbian.

To avoid vote manipulation, voting is restricted by IP address. That means people voting while connected to a public WIFI access may be unable vote. We suggest voting be done by private internet access or through your cellular provider.

SYDNEY BROWN, MOUNTAIN VIEW SOFTBALL: Brown allowed no earned runs and just one hit in 12 innings with 28 strikeouts, including a no-hitter vs. Kelso.

NICK JENKINS, RIDGEFIELD BOYS TRACK AND FIELD: Jenkins won the triple jump at the McMinnville Invitational with the No. 2 mark in Class 2A (45-0.5) and placed second in the high jump.

RACHEL MERRILL, CAMAS GIRLS TENNIS: Merrill won the match of the week, rallying to beat Sam Phan of Battle Ground 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in a No. 1 singles match.

ALLYSON PETERSON, HOCKINSON GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: Peterson ran the top time in the region in the 1,600 meters (5:10.98) at the Nike Eason Invitational in Snohomish.

XAVIER ULRICH, COLUMBIA RIVER BASEBALL: Ulrich went 8 for 15 with three homers and 11 RBI as River won three of four to remain in first in the 2A GSHL.
