Weather Eye: Finally, we will start to enjoy the warmth of spring in the Northwest

Today we will feel the warmth of spring finally and post our first 70-degree day for the month. A weather system at the same time will bring rain along the Washington coastline, slipping south along the Oregon beaches. By later tonight those clouds and rain will sneak in under the cover of darkness and bring us more of those April showers Friday.

The good news is that high pressure will rebuild rather quickly Friday evening and the weekend is looking great. Great as in mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s. What excellent timing for Easter weekend, huh?

Egg hunts Saturday or Sunday are a “go” outside. No getting wet dashing inside for church service either. We have had many Easters in the past wet and cold and plain miserable.

Looking into the future after the weekend, I see only light amounts of rain, as in showers and more dry than wet. The first half of April was wet and cool, the remainder will be much drier and warmer. Temperatures should be at seasonal normals or higher. The average high for today in Vancouver is 62 degrees.

Last year April was wet and cool the first half of the month as well. On April 18 it was 64 degrees followed by several highs in the 80s. Total rainfall at the end of the month was still above average. I don’t see any 80-degree days this go around but at least it will feel more like spring.

I’m hoping that April goes out like a lamb as March did this year, with a nice 70-degree high temperature, our last 70-degree day.
