Weather Eye: Mixed outlook for rest of week; early signs point to nice Easter

The weather this week will be a mixed bag, with a chance of showers and then dry, warm and 70 degrees on Thursday. Friday through the weekend could see showers and maybe some dry weather.

A nice Easter Sunday is likely as I look at the weather charts Monday afternoon.

The majority of moisture is forecast to remain south of the Columbia River. Storms are heading into Southern Oregon and Northern California.

Freezing levels rise today and tomorrow. Any precipitation would be rain below 6,000 or 7,000 feet. Folks are getting into outdoor summer mode, so let the snow melt continue.

With all that rain and snowmelt last week, the Columbia River just about reached flood stage over the weekend. It sure is muddy and flowing fast through Vancouver. I crossed the Astoria-Megler Bridge across the Columbia over the weekend, and it was a muddy color down there as it flowed out to sea.

The past few days have been quite chilly, with afternoon highs about 10 degrees below average. So, if we manage 70 on Thursday, that will certainly be a bonus. April 2016, we had several days in the 80s and one day in the 70s for highs. April 2017 we only had one 70-degree day. April 2018, we had a few days in the 80s and one day at 70 for the highs.

Looking doubtful we have 80 degrees this month, but it can’t be too far around the corner. May is almost here. We had four days in March at 70 or better. So far this month, we haven’t reached 70 degrees.
