A two-vehicle crash Monday morning near West Fourth Plain Boulevard and Franklin Street sent four people to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Vancouver firefighters and police were dispatched about 8:30 a.m. to the intersection between the Hough and Carter Park neighborhoods in Vancouver.

A first responder told dispatchers there were two vehicles involved that had heavy damage, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. He requested an additional ambulance to respond with its sirens on.

The first responder said traffic on Fourth Plain would likely need to be shut down in both directions, according to the scanner. Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email that a single lane was kept open to let traffic through.

Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said one vehicle had three occupants and the other was occupied by its driver. All the people involved were outside the vehicles when firefighters arrived, Spatz said.

Kapp characterized the vehicles as an SUV and a minivan. Tow trucks arrived at the scene around 9:10 a.m., she said.
