Most local rivers are in poor condition following recent rains.
Spring Chinook angling is closed from the mouth of the Columbia at Buoy 10 up to the Bonneville Dam on Thursday and Friday, but will reopen this weekend after fisheries managers decided that fishermen had only caught about half of their share of the fish.
Spring Chinook angling is open from Tower Island power lines upstream to the Oregon/Washington border above McNary Dam, plus the banks between Bonneville Dam and Tower Island power lines.
White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 upstream to Bonneville Dam, in The Dalles Pool, and in the John Day Pool. The Bonneville Pool will close this Saturday after managers decided that the quota will be filled by then. Sturgeon fishing remains a catch and release option.
Trout fishing in local lakes has been good.
Steelheading is fair on the Cowlitz River.
Walleye fishing is good in the Bonneville Pool, and excellent in the John Day pool.
Salmon/Steelhead
As of April 9, 184 spring Chinook have crossed over Bonneville Dam.
As of April 9, 126 spring Chinook have crossed Willamette Falls.
Warrior Rock to Bonneville Dam — 516 salmonid boats and 118 Washington bank rods were tallied during last Sundays flight count.
Bonneville — 239 bank anglers kept 19 adult spring Chinook and released 2. 6 boats/13 anglers kept two adult spring Chinook and released two.
Camas/Washougal — 23 boats/50 anglers kept three adult spring Chinook and released three.
I-5 — One bank angler had no catch. 65 boats/141 anglers kept 17 adult spring Chinook and released 1.
Vancouver — 489 boats/1138 anglers kept 123 adult spring Chinook and released 21 adults and three jacks.
Cowlitz River — I-5 Br downstream: 37 bank rods kept 2 steelhead.
Above the I-5 Bridge — 58 bank rods kept 13 steelhead; 38 boats/110 rods kept 42 steelhead and released 4 steelhead.
Kalama River — 14 bank anglers had no catch.
Lewis River — three bank anglers released 1 steelhead.
Drano Lake — Three boats/five rods had no catch.
Recent trout plants
Battle Ground Lake — Planted with 2,000 rainbow trout at 2.5 fish per pound on April 1.
Sturgeon
Bonneville Pool — 14 bank anglers kept one legal sturgeon and released five sublegal sturgeon. Nine boats/23 rods kept 14 legal sturgeon, released 77 sublegal and two oversize sturgeon.
John Day Pool — Eight bank anglers kept one legal sturgeon. Two boats/four rods had no catch.
Walleye
Bonneville Pool — Two bank anglers had no catch. Two boats/five rods kept five walleye.
John Day Pool — Two bank anglers had no catch. Seven boats/13 rods kept two and released 10 walleye.
Bass
Bonneville Pool — Three boats/six rods kept two bass and released 71 bass.
