Clark County got soaked with more than 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend. It could have been worse. The heaviest rains fell south of the Columbia River with Salem and Eugene getting 4-6 inches. Many streams were flooding yesterday and the Willamette River at Salem was expected to crest today at 26.3 feet, the highest since January 2012.
This week we have unsettled weather with showers today through Thursday. Friday may be fair and dry. The weekend looks damp. To add insult to injury, the high temperatures will be below average for this time of the year, mostly in the upper 50s. Maybe a 60 Friday.
I did mention the other day that Saturday and Sunday would be a good storm watching day at the coast. It took a while to develop but ocean swells reached about 20 feet and at high tide Saturday afternoon began crashing against the rocky shoreline. Despite the rain and wet sand, the winds were strong enough to blow the sand horizontally. It didn’t take long to get sandblasted and soaked.
Is there no end in sight to the April showers? I’m sure by now, after one full week of April that we will have plenty of May flowers. Goodness, I’m still looking for the stretch of warm sunny days that we usually enjoy in April.
