Washougal — Eight Washougal elementary students competed in Sodexo’s Future Chefs Challenge at Washougal High School on March 6. The eight competitors were chosen by submitting recipes based on this year’s theme: healthy Mexican food. They were judged on originality, taste, presentation and use of healthy ingredients, and the chefs prepared their meals with the help of students from the high school’s culinary program and Sodexo staff. Skylar Stotts from Columbia River Gorge Elementary finished first for his pineapple guacamole, followed by Wylie Gibson of Hathaway Elementary with her wild goose fajitas.
