WASHOUGAL — The Clark County Historic Preservation Commission voted Wednesday to accept the Parker’s Landing Historical Park in Washougal to the Clark County Historic Register.
The park sits off state Highway 14 on the Columbia River in Washougal. The roughly 4-acre park site commemorates the Chinook speaking Native Americans of the area, along with the settlement established by homesteader David C. Parker and, later, stewarded by three generations of the Van Vleet family, according to the Port of Camas-Washougal, which owns the property.
The site was added to National Register of Historic Places and the Washington State Heritage Register in 1976. Over the years, the port has added interpretive kiosks, pathways, benches and other amenities.
The Parkersville National Historic Site Advisory Committee advises the port on park management and started the effort to have the park recognized.
The addition of the park to the register will help secure the property as a historical park and protect the parcel from future development, the port said.
