Here’s the story on ‘Everybody Has a Story’

For well over a decade, “Everybody Has a Story” ran on Wednesdays in The Columbian’s Neighbors section, bottom of the page.

But times have changed. Our Wednesday Neighbors section is now our Saturday Community section. “Everybody Has a Story” has made the jump too.

All we seem to be missing, right now, is your stories. “Everybody Has a Story” is where Columbian readers tell true tales about their lives. We often have a big stack of stories waiting to run, week by week, but every once in a while that stack gets used up. That’s why we’re having this little chat. We’re eager to see your story.

That story can be almost anything — a formative childhood (or grown-up) event, a solo or family adventure, a tragic loss, a hilarious happening. Serious or silly, big or small, way back when or just this morning — we like it all. Just do us all a favor and remember a few basic guidelines:

• Your story must be true.

• It must be no longer than 1,000 words. Shorter is better. No epics here.

• It must a coherent tale — not an argument, declaration of faith or patchwork of anecdotes. Does it have a beginning, middle and ending?

• Focus on your personal experience — what you were seeing, hearing, thinking, feeling.

• Expect a little kindly editing.

Send your stories to neighbors@columbian.com — yes, that mailbox still exists — and you’ll be hearing from us.
