Weather Eye: It’ll be wet late today through the weekend, especially on Friday

Our weather reminds me of when my children were younger and would ask every now and again on a long trip (or even a short one to the beach), “Are we there yet?” Well, if you are daydreaming about a week of sunny, warm weather in springtime, no, we are not there yet. We did have several days in mid-March before spring officially arrived.

We enjoyed a nice weekend last week with warm temperatures but we won’t this weekend or all of next week, for that matter. Unsettled weather is on tap until further notice. Real wet weather late today through the weekend. Perhaps next week may turn out more dry than wet.

Friday will be a soaker most everywhere, and gusty winds along the coast will cause some good wave action if you would like to do some springtime storm watching. Last year about this time, we also had stormy weather, especially along the coast with high winds and high surf.

The earliest high temperature in April of 80 degrees or better was April 2, 1944, with a high right at 80. I do not see any 80-degree weather on the immediate horizon. I wish we would have a repeat of April 2016. We enjoyed six days of 80 degrees or better with an 89-degree high April 18. Wow.

Is your mouth watering for those luscious local strawberries? The end of May and first of June will be here before you know it. I know much of the farmland has gone to urban housing, but still there will be some local strawberries from the metro area, which are my favorite. It looks like the weather may be on our side this year. Ample ground moisture to start things off and projected warmer than average May and June.

Keep dry, enjoy the weekend and keep things sunny-side-up despite the rain.
